The first day of school is Tuesday, August 6. This will be a full day of school for grades 1-5. Kindergarten students will have a half-day of school on August 6 AND August 7, dismissing at 11:30. The school bus will run for the half-day dismissal time. The first full day of school for Kindergarten will be Thursday, August 8th. There will be an opportunity for students to visit the school and meet their teachers on Monday, August 5. Additional details will be shared through Hornet News as soon as they are available.
School starts at 8:00am and dismisses at 3:00pm. Morning drop-off begins at 7:45am.
It is important that all students attend school regularly. Please check the calendar now and plan any time off to maximize your child’s time in school. When your child does miss school, please send a note and communicate with your child’s teacher.
Yes, Julia Green Extended Care is operated by independent provider. If your family needs additional hours of childcare either before or after school, JGEC provides care from 7:15-7:45 am and 3-6pm. For more information about extended care, please visit www.jgec.info.
Students generally come and go three different ways: by school bus, by car, or by walking.
Bus: All Metro students who attend their zoned school, and who live more than 1.25 miles from school, are eligible for school bus transportation. To find your bus route, go to: www.mnps.org/transportation.
Car: You may drop off and pick up your child by car. More detailed information on how the line works is available under Carline Procedures.
Walk: Families that live within walking distance may choose to walk to school.
All students must wear standard school attire (SSA) to school. The SSA requirements at Julia Green are:Tops (or dresses): with collar in any solid colorBottoms: pants, shorts or skirts in khaki, black, or navyShoes: must have closed-toe shoes for daily recess
You can purchase SSA from any retailer that you choose. Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, GAP, Lands’ End and many more retailers have a large selection of SSA clothing. Clothes do not have to be branded with the Julia Green logo. If you would like to purchase clothing with the Julia Green logo (shirts, vests, pull-overs) you may do so through the Lands’ End uniform shop. Go to landsend.com, click on the “SCHOOL” tab and then click on “Find Your School.” You can search for Julia Green by entering the school name and state or using the Preferred School Number: 900129818.
On Fridays, students are allowed to wear any Julia Green t-shirt in place of SSA tops. SSA bottoms and closed-toe shoes are still required on Fridays. Julia Green t-shirts and other gear may be purchased at the Julia Green Spirit Store, which can be found online or is open at school events throughout the year.
All students must purchase school supplies before school begins in August. The school supply lists will be posted in July under School Supplies.
In addition to classroom supplies, students should have a backpack. For children who choose to bring their lunch, you may wish to have a lunch box. Most teachers also request that students bring a water bottle for use throughout the day.
All students will eat lunch daily in the cafeteria. All students benefit from the No Pay lunch grant which provides lunch at no cost to all students. Students may also bring a lunch from home. Funds can be put on your student’s account for treats in the cafeteria such as ice cream or chips by visiting the cafeteria, or you can send money to school with your student.In addition, all students benefit from No Pay breakfast served daily from 7:30 to 8:00 am.
Yes! Visitors will be allowed to eat with their children on specific days. Additional information will be provided at the beginning of the school year.
While it is difficult to predict the exact timing, you will be notified of your child's teacher prior to the first day of school.
