IB Primary Years Programme
“The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”
What is Julia Green’s affiliation with the International Baccalaureate (IB)
In March 2011, after three years of exploration and trial implementation, Julia Green achieved full authorization as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Julia Green believes is important for our students. Being the first school in Nashville authorized for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Julia Green is part of the inaugural K-12 IB continuum in Tennessee.
How does the IB education pathway continue for Julia Green students?
Upon completing the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Julia Green students have the opportunity to extend their IB education through high school. Julia Green students are zoned to attend JT Moore that offers the Middle Years Programme (MYP), then Hillsboro High School that offers the MYP for all 9th and 10th graders and the Diploma Programme (DP) for 11th and 12th graders who choose that course.

As the first school in Nashville authorized to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP), we are also part of the first K-12 IB continuum in Tennessee.
What is the mission of the International Baccalaureate?
The IB missions statement begins: “The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”
How does Julia Green integrate IB principles with local educational standards?
Julia Green's commitment to fostering global citizens through the PYP involves the study of another language (Mandarin Chinese), guided inquiry into six globally significant themes, and the cultivation of the 10 Learner Profiles. While the curriculum is based on MNPS and Tennessee standards, it is delivered through the PYP, incorporating five essential elements: concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and student action.
